Rochon was raised in Torrance. She was the daughter of Zelma Staples (a nurse practitioner) and Samuel Staples (a businessman and graphic artist). Cerritos was her high school. The school graduated her in 1982. She received her bachelor's degree of broadcast journalism with minors from the theater and sociology departments from California State University Dominguez hills (CSUDH). Rochon's return to CSUDH occurred in the year 2016 as she addressed the commencement ceremony at CSUDH's College of Arts and Humanities.

Heather is the creator and host of the online travel show Drive Yourself Local where she tells stories from the locals in small towns while exploring America in her classic 1965 Ford Mustang. She's also appeared in many television series and films, such as Nightingale Epic Movie and Tosh

Ullerup first made an appearance in Battlestar Galactica remake, the Sci Fi Channel's 2006 television show. The role she played was Julia Brynn. Her character, Ashley Magnus, was written out of Sanctuary's first and second seasons. Her departure remained a topic of heated debate among viewers, with a majority who wanted her back in future episodes, until the show was cancelled in the year 2012. Ullerup was on the show Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup played Maggie Thomas as the estranged ex-wife of Michael Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact. Ullerup's recurring role in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered series is Dale Travers since 2016.
